Kayaköy (also known as Levissi or Karmylassos) is one of the most atmospheric and historically significant sites in the Fethiye region. This abandoned Greek village — left empty since the population exchange of 1923 — now stands as a hauntingly beautiful open-air museum and a powerful reminder of the region's complex past.
Kayaköy is approximately 50–60 kilometres from Dalaman Airport, just 8km from the centre of Fethiye. The journey by private transfer takes around 50 to 65 minutes.
Kayaköy was once a thriving Greek Orthodox village called Levissi, home to approximately 3,500 inhabitants. Following the Greco-Turkish War and the 1923 population exchange, the entire village was abandoned virtually overnight. Today, over 500 stone houses, two churches, chapels, and a school remain standing — slowly being reclaimed by nature.
Walking through Kayaköy's crumbling stone houses — their interiors open to the sky, their walls covered with traces of coloured plaster — is an extraordinary experience. It is both beautiful and deeply melancholy.
Two large Greek Orthodox churches dominate the village. The Katapoliani Church on the upper level still has remnants of its original mosaic floor and frescoes. Entry to the site carries a small admission fee.
Kayaköy is also the starting point for a spectacular hiking trail to Ölüdeniz — a 3-4 hour walk through fragrant pine forests and meadows, with sweeping views of the Blue Lagoon.
Our private transfers to Kayaköy run 24/7 from Dalaman Airport with fixed prices and professional drivers.
